Welcome to 1st Grade!

WELCOME TO FIRST GRADE!

Dear Parents,

Pencils, crayons, schoolbags, smiling faces, classmates, a new teacher, and an eagerness to learn are all signs that school is starting. Our first day of school is here. My name is Megan Jones and I am excited to be your child’s First Grade teacher.  I am looking forward to a great year teaching your child.  I am honored to have your child in my class.

First I would like to tell you a little bit about me.  I actually grew up here in the Bend.  I also attended Neely’s Bend Elementary Kindergarten through 4th grade.  Some ofm y favorite childhood memories are from when I attended school here.  I graduated from Volunteer State with an Associates of Science degree in 2009.  Then in 2011 I graduate from Cumberland University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  I am currently working on completing my Master’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.  This will be my second year teaching.  I taught 4th grade least year at Madison Creek Elementary.  I have a 2 year old son named Easton.  We enjoy going on walks and playing outside.  I am so excited about being able to come “home” to teach.  I’m looking forward to helping your child create exciting school memories.

My classroom door is always open, so please feel free to let me know if there is anything you need. I will do my best to help you.  I will send home a weekly newsletter and keep our class website updated.  You can find our class website under my name on the school website.  If you need to get in contact with me you can email me at: megan.jones@mnps.org, call the school at 860-1471, or send in a note with your child.

Please know I take class time very seriously.  Your child and I only have a small amount of time for instruction.  I want to be sure we are able to concentrate on our material with as few interruptions as possible.  So, during class time I will not be able to check or respond to emails or phone calls.  If you need to change how your child is going home, or any other vital information, please call the office and let them know.  They will pass along the information to me.  If you know ahead of time, please send a note.

Thank you!

Ms. Jones

Congressman Diane Black

Wow were we blessed to have such an awesome guest today!  Congressman Black came and read the story "Horton Hatches an Egg" and then shared with the kids about what she does in Washington.  The kids also asked some great questions!  Here are a couple of pictures from our time with her this morning.
